Gift distribution at Central Union Mission's Show Some Love 2018

No Christmas celebration is complete without gifts! You can bless our homeless neighbors with Christmas presents, prizes and homemade goodies to show that they are not forgotten. This is an excellent project for your office, scout group, youth group, church or service group. Your generosity means so much.

Three Ways to Show Some Love


SHOW SOME LOVE GIFT BAGS

You can make December 13, 2019, a night to remember by sponsoring Christmas gift bags for neighbors in need. Please provide a Christmas bag with $25 worth of these items:

Christmas Gift List

  • $5 or $10 gift cards for movies, fast food, Walmart, Target, Subway, McDonalds, Starbucks
  • Metro Smart cards/passes
  • Wallet / wristwatch
  • Warm scarf/gloves/hat
  • Thermal socks
  • Slipper socks
  • Electric shaver/nose cleaner
  • Grooming tote bags
  • Reading glasses
  • Books on job hunting and motivational topics
  • Redskins, Capitals or Wizards paraphernalia
  • 18 or 24 oz non-breakable water container
  • General interest magazines (Sports Illustrated, Car & Driver, Newsweek, etc.)
  • Cologne/lotion/bath products

Please note:

  • Items can be individually wrapped and then tied together to make one $25 gift package or placed in a Christmas gift bag. The guys do enjoy unwrapping individually wrapped gifts.
  • Please tag your donation with a label that says “Merry Christmas from me to you!” You can also include an encouraging note or Christmas card with your package if you’d like.
  • When choosing gift cards please use stores accessible in the District of Columbia.

Gift Delivery Options:

  1. Preferred Delivery Option. Please mail the gifts to Central Union Mission, ATT: Deborah Chambers, 6811 Kenilworth Ave, Suite 600B, Riverdale, MD 20737. You may also deliver them to this location Monday through Friday between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm.
  2. You may also deliver the gifts directly to the shelter, any day of the week between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm. Please address the delivery ATT: Deborah Chambers. The shelter is located at 65 Massachusetts Ave, NW, Washington, DC 20001.

DOOR PRIZES



Door prizes create excitement like nothing else. You can show how much you care by contributing items like:

Gift cards

  • Cards should be to places easily accessed in DC like: Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Macys, Walgreens, CVS, Uber, Lyft, Metro Card
  • Local restaurants like Subway, McDonalds, Chic Fil A, Burger King, Panera Bread, Corner Bakery, Chipotle, Chop’ t, Dunkin Donuts, Shake Shack, Carolina Kitchen, Cheesecake Factory, Starbucks, District Taco, Five Guys, Wendy’s, etc.

Event Tickets

  • Two tickets to a Washington Wizards or Capitals game (so they can bring a friend)
  • Two tickets to a local concert or holiday show.

Grooming Services

  • Gift cards to Massage Envy or The Art of Shaving

Holiday Baskets

  • Holiday baskets filled with treats like meats and sausages or popcorn, candy and baked goods. No alcoholic beverages please.

Create a sweet treat for the men on December 13th


Create your favorite cakes, pies, cookies or any other dessert to help Show Some Love to 250 neighbors experiencing homelessness this Christmas!

Show Some Love Dessert Delivery:

    Please deliver desserts directly to the shelter, December 11th and 12th between 7:00 am and 7:00 pm or December 13th between 7:00 am and 2:00 pm. The shelter is located at 65 Massachusetts Ave, NW, Washington, DC 20001.
